Pori, Finland / Capua, Italy Tecnam proudly announces that it has been awarded a landmark contract by the Finnish Aviation Academy (FINAA) for the delivery of ten (10) Tecnam P2010TDI aircraft. This significant acquisition marks a transformative milestone for Finland’s premier professional flight training institution.

Following a rigorous public procurement process initiated in late 2024, Tecnam was selected from among three strong contenders. The P2010TDI emerged as the ideal solution to support FINAA’s mission of delivering cutting-edge pilot training with a strong emphasis on efficiency, technology, and sustainability.

“These will be the first ten Tecnam aircraft in our fleet, and they will replace our legacy four seat aircraft,” said Ari Tolonen, Managing Director and Accountable Manager of the Finnish Aviation Academy. “We are eagerly looking forward to this cooperation and the arrival of the new aircraft. This is a huge step for our future.”

The FINAA, owned by the Finnish government and headquartered in Pori since 1985, trains 80 to 100 professional pilot students each year, making it the largest ATO (Approved Training Organization) in the country. The adoption of the Tecnam P2010TDI reflects the Academy’s commitment to modernizing its fleet with more capable, environmentally conscious aircraft.

The Tecnam P2010TDI, powered by the highly efficient Continental CD-170 engine and MT Propeller, and equipped with state-of-the-art Garmin avionics, offers a unique combination of advanced technology, low emissions, and fuel efficiency. With its extended range and payload, the aircraft enables IFR training on a single-engine platform—significantly reducing operational costs while enhancing FINAA’s mission flexibility and overall capabilities.

“The P2010TDI is a unique aircraft in today’s training market,” said Paolo Pascale, CEO of Tecnam. “Thanks to its Continental engine, it ensures low operational costs while delivering outstanding performance and reliability. It’s an aircraft that can truly make a difference in the business plan of any flight training organization.”

“We are honored by the trust placed in us by the Finnish Aviation Academy,” said Walter Da Costa, Tecnam Chief Sales Officer. “This order further strengthens our commitment to supporting the next generation of pilots with safe, sustainable, and state-of-the-art training aircraft.”

The first deliveries are scheduled to begin in March 2026, with the full fleet of ten P2010TDI aircraft set to significantly enhance FINAA’s training capabilities in the years ahead.

Tradition, innovation and vision. These factors are taking Tecnam to new horizons. Based on recent data and industry benchmarks, Tecnam offers the greenest training fleet in the world. Flight schools using Tecnam’s single and twin engine fleet can save up to 10 tonnes of CO2 emissions for each student who completes a Commercial Pilot Licence – a 60% reduction compared to a fleet using 100LL fuel across 155 flight hours, including 30 hours in a twin (www.Tecnam.com/soar-greener).

P2010 TDI Achieves EASA Type Certificate https://tecnam.com/p2010-tdi-achieves-easa-type-certificate/ Wed, 21 Oct 2020 18:38:59 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=4662 P2010TDI Diesel JetA1

CAPUA, Italy – After the live-streaming world premiere held in May 2020, which introduced the P2010 TDI to the market, Costruzioni Aeronautiche TECNAM SpA® has announced today the achievement of the Type Certificate for the P2010 TDI.

The P2010 TDI certification is just the latest achievement of Tecnam’s continuous development and innovation programs, adding the Diesel/JetA1 engine to the already-wide range of choice of Avgas and Mogas-powered TECNAM aircraft.

The P2010 airframe, with its wide, composite, sleek fuselage design and the all-metal wing and stabilator, has proven to be the perfect platform to match the Diesel engine performances and capabilities. The consolidated comfort, accessibility, safety and reliability of the “P Twenty-Ten” are now accompanied by the flexibility granted by the use of Diesel/JetA1 fuel and the extremely low operating costs provided by the dual FADEC-controlled Continental engine.

Along with the 180 hp Avgas/Mogas and 215 hp Avgas engines, certification of the 170 hp TDI widens the range of choice for P2010 customers. This latest engine development brings the aviation market unbeatable fuel efficiency and performance: the turbo Diesel/JetA1 powerplant offers an outstanding cruise-fuel burn that ranges from 4.5 USG/hr (17 litres/hr) at 55% power, to 7 USG/hr (27 litres/hr) at 75% power. This provides consistent performance up to 8,000ft and allows operations up to 18,000ft, raising the P2010 to “new heights” (for which an optional oxygen system is provided). Moreover, the standard P2010 fuel tanks ensure an unrivalled range in excess of 1,000nm and endurance of up to 15 hours, all monitored through the state-of-the-art standard G1000NXI avionics package.

The TECNAM design team has paid particular attention to maintaining the P2010 series characteristics of great comfort, low noise and minimal vibration. Some of the many options available include Premium leather interiors with electric seats; the GFC-700 autopilot, which ensures smooth and precise autopilot operations; and the additional safety that can be provided by the Garmin GTS-800 TAS system.

The P2010 TDI is a culmination of all the very latest technologies, where Tecnam’s ability to manage both metal and composite components has shaped a unique solution in terms of efficiency, load-carrying structure and unique Italian style. The fuselage and vertical fin, entirely made of pre-peg carbon fibres, provide the best use of space, while wings, horizontal tail and rudder, as well as all the load-carrying structures, are built with 70 years’ experience of light alloy structures.

Flight safety is self-evident in the latest certification requirements, followed by the electrically operated, adjustable-height seats with 26G-capable crashworthiness. Flying experience is the ultimate with the Garmin® G1000® NXi glass cockpit and GFCTM 700 autopilot, entirely integrated and tuned around the ContinentalTM CD-170 engine.

Continental’s JetA1/Diesel-powered 170 HP engine offers ease of flying with its single-lever control, full FADEC, electronic engine monitoring and redundant safety features. The CD-170 is the newest design and also the highest-horsepower engine in the CD-100 series, well-proven with more than 6,000 engines delivered and over 7.1 million service flight hours.

“The certification of a new aircraft is always a great achievement for us and for the aviation community, especially when it involves the best professionals of the Authority and from our company, setting the latest standard for safety and innovation,” says Paolo Pascale, TECNAM CEO. “The P Twenty-Ten remains a modern aircraft for flight schools and private owners. And now, with the Continental JetA1/Diesel engine, the P2010 TDI is simply the ‘ideal aircraft’, combining a modern, sleek, ‘green’ design with consistent, robust power.”

“The type certification for the Tecnam P2010 TDI is a significant milestone for the commercial use of JetA1/Diesel engines for flight schools and private owners,” said Jurgen Schwarz, Executive Vice President of Commercial Business for Continental Aerospace Technologies™.  “We are proud to partner with Tecnam to offer aviators the opportunity to fly a ‘green’ aircraft design with robust power. The CD-170 JetA1 engine technology and availability of Diesel fuel will allow P2010 TDI operators to focus on flight operations instead of dwelling on fuel mixture and limited flight range.”

Rabigh Wings Takes Acceptance of Second Tecnam P2006T ME Aircraft https://tecnam.com/rabigh-wings-takes-acceptance-of-second-tecnam-p2006t-me-aircraft/ https://tecnam.com/rabigh-wings-takes-acceptance-of-second-tecnam-p2006t-me-aircraft/#respond Wed, 24 Jul 2019 13:27:13 +0000 https://tecnam.com/?p=14775

Rabigh Wings Aviation Academy (RWAA), based at Rabigh Airport Saudi Arabia, completed the factory acceptance on its second Tecnam P2006T ME trainer on 3 July 2019.  RWAA is the only operational flight school in Saudi Arabia and believes in the concept of modern equipment to train modern pilots.

RWAA was founded by HRH Prince Turki bin Muqrin bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud in 2008 and continues to expand its training capacity to answer to the ever-increasing demand for professionally trained pilots.

This brand-new Tecnam P2006T is a twin-engine four-seat aircraft with fully retractable landing gear and will be the second P2006T aircraft in the RWAA fleet.  Its simplicity, great performance, efficiency and ergonomics are what make this aircraft ideal for multi-engine training, as well as cross-country flying.  The P2006T offers unbeatable value and innovative design with a modern Garmin avionics suite, integrating all primary flight, navigation, communication and terrain data on two high-definition LCDs. The aircraft is also equipped with an S-Tec 55x high-performance, two-axis autopilot, with advanced features.

Fitted with two Rotax 912S3 engines, the Tecnam P2006T exhibits remarkable fuel savings and can be operated on AVGAS and MOGAS 95 octane fuel, leading to huge cost savings.  At only 160 pounds each, including lubricants and coolants, the Rotax engines are at least 25 pounds lighter than other small piston engines.

Acquiring the P2006T will allow RWAA to offer more flight time and a quicker way to move through multi-engine ratings.  The P2006T is ideal for flight training, as the aircraft has proved to be very unstressful to fly, the controls are light to operate, and even with one engine inoperative, the pressure needed to cope with the asymmetric thrust is very low.

RWAA looks forward to continuing its relationship with TECNAM Aircraft Industries to further expand its single- and multi-engine fleet.

Willem Marais, General Manager, Rabigh Wings Aviation Academy said: “The RWAA training program will benefit greatly from our second Tecnam P2006T Twin. Our pilots like flying it, our instructors enjoy training in it, and our student pilots love everything about it. We look forward to adding it to our growing fleet.”

Walter Da Costa, Global Sales & Marketing Director, said: “We are extremely proud to partner with Rabigh Wings Aviation Academy. The team at RWAA are very committed to providing the best possible aircraft for pilot training and that’s exactly what the P2006T Twin is known for — being the world’s most reputable twin-engine aeroplane. We wish them continued success in the future.”
